AAT Syllabus and Levels

AAT Syllabus Level 2

In AAT Syllabus Level 2, students will have the opportunity to acquire essentials of accounting and bookkeeping through four mandatory units:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (ITBK)
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Control (POBC)
  • Principle of Costing (PCTN)
  • Business Environment (BESY) - Synoptic Assessment

Students who complete the AAT qualification AQ2022 will be well prepared for careers in business, finance, or expert accountancy and further education. The course consists of four mandatory units. Each unit is assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but the system will also include a synoptic review. Synoptic assessment demonstrates and evaluates learning and knowledge from across the qualification:

A student who completes the AAT qualification AQ2022 will develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing and learn about general ledgers, purchases, and sales. By the end of this course, students will be able to use and understand accounting software. They will develop the professional skills and behaviours required to succeed in a competitive job market.

An accountant needs to have excellent communication skills, IT skills, and a thorough knowledge of the business environment, all of which can be achieved with this qualification.

An AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting AQ2022 will provide you with essential skills in finance, accountancy, business, and communications that will help you land employment in:

AAT Syllabus Level 3

A student who studies this AQ2022 course will develop accountancy abilities that will enable them to pursue employment confidently and progress to the next level of learning. You can gain finance, accountancy, business, and communications skills through an AAT advanced diploma in Accounting. It is based on four subjects;

  • Financial Accounting: Preparation of Financial Statements (FAPS)
  • Management Accounting Techniques (MATS)
  • Tax Processes for Business (TPFB)
  • Business Awareness (BUAW)

You will understand the importance, purpose and techniques required to deal with management accounting and VAT and payroll processes. In this Level, you will study how to prepare financial statements for sole proprietorships and partnerships. You will also understand the inside/outside of the business environment and the needs of the organization.

AAT Level 3 Qualification will lead to:

Students will acquire accountancy skills that will enable them to pursue employment confidently and progress to the next level of learning. The students will develop skills that include mastering detailed financial information, including final accounts, VAT returns, spreadsheets for accountants, and professional ethics.

Students will need to identify and apply relevant knowledge, skills and techniques to perform tasks and solve problems with clearly defined but complex requirements. Among other responsibilities, they will be expected to initiate and complete tasks, procedures, demonstrate autonomy and judgment within many narrow parameters, such as different perspectives in a study or work area.

Skills created through this qualification can lead to employment as:

  • An accounting assistant
  • Accounts payable and expenses supervisor
  • An account payable clerk
  • An assistant accountant
  • An audit trainee
  • A credit controller
  • A finance assistant

AAT Syllabus Level 4

Upon completing the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting AQ2022, students receive in-depth knowledge of accounting and finance topics and duties. Students will acquire proficiency in constructing and displaying complex management accounts during this course, including drafting financial reports for limited companies, recommending accounting strategies, and making recommendations about accounting.

Students will also learn about specialist subjects such as taxation, auditing, and credit management. This qualification includes three mandatory and two specialist units selected from five options.

The compulsory units are:

  • Drafting and Interpreting of Financial Statements (DAIF)
  • Applied Management Accounting (AMAC)
  • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls (INAC)

(optional units - choose two):

  • Business Tax (BNTA)
  • Personal Tax (PNTA)
  • Audit and Assurance (AUDT)
  • Cash and Financial Management (CSFT)
  • Credit and Debt Management (CRDM)

In addition to providing AQ2022 AAT qualifications, employers also offer support for our assessment program. Students who pass the AAT assessment pass a real workplace competency test that is evaluated by practitioners and industry experts in a real-world scenario.

AAT Level 4 Qualification will lead to:

After certification, students automatically become AAT affiliate members who, with relevant work experience, may become full members, enabling them to use the designation MAAT after their names. However, the most basic and most important objective of the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting is to prepare students for well-paid jobs in accountancy and finance, including:

  • Professional accounting technician
  • Assistant auditor
  • Assistant management accountant
  • Commercial analyst
  • Payroll manager
  • Senior bookkeeper
  • Senior financial officer
  • Accounts payable and expenses supervisor

AQ2022 AAT Syllabus Assessments

To achieve this AQ2022, students must pass three compulsory unit assessments, plus two optional unit assessments. The proportion of the course assessed by external exams is 100% assessments must be completed:

  • Are set and marked by AAT
  • Are computer-based
  • Are time-limited
  • Are prepared by training providers or assessment centres
  • Conducted at approved venues and centres under controlled situations

In units and synoptic assessments, grades are not given individually, but all marks students receive from their assessments will contribute to their overall rate for the course.



Marking

AAT marks all assessments. Assessments may be:

  • Completely computer marked
  • Half computer marked and half-human marked
  • Completely human marked

Assessments undergo regular quality assurance, which includes:

  • Standardisation of markers
  • Sampling for marking consistency
  • Review of borderline scripts

Grading

Students earning an AQ2022 AAT Accounting degree will be rewarded with a grade based on their performance across the curriculum. Students must complete all the mandatory unit exams, optional unit exams, and the synoptic assessment to obtain the qualification and be given a status. Unit assessments and synoptic exams will not be graded individually, but a mark will be allocated based on their performance in all the courses.

Students will be given an overall course grade (Distinction, Merit, and Pass). We will convert the raw marks of each exam into percentage marks and round them up or down to the nearest whole number.
